The Food in ZA

September 9th, 2008

Bad news, outside of big cities, the food is not that great. Everything, and I mean everything is incredibly sweet. It is as if they haven’t had sugar in 100 years and want to put it in everything.

Morning in Addo

September 9th, 2008

We went on an early morning game drive in Addo and managed to see three lions “interact” with a herd of Cape buffalo. No one was eaten, but it was impressive. Pics soon.

Best Laid Plans

September 6th, 2008

One of our accomodations had to close due to water damage - and in our haste to find alternate accomodations near by, we wound up in a little cottage down a 7 Km (heavily potholed) dirt road. Rustic to say the least.

Arrival!

September 1st, 2008

We did succeed in making it to Cape Town, SA. Rather grueling travel, but we made it, found Genya, and found our apartment in Cape Town, and don’t have too bad of jet lag

Mid-way point

August 31st, 2008

We made it to London’s Heathrow airport with about 7 hours till our flight to Cape Town, which was, unfortunately, sccrewed up.

We had originally book two flights with United, SFO-LHR and LHR-CPT, with the second leg being a code share operated by South African, somewhere along the line they decided to up and change our itinerary to go through Johanesburg with a 9 hour layover. Needless to say, the cat was not impressed. We managed to get it fixed, at least in theory, but when we arrived at Heathrow and checked in with SA, the whole thing was screwed up, but fortunately, they were able to get us on the flight we were supposed to be on - though it took a fair bit of doing.

So, here we are, hanging out. The Star Alliance lounge is quite nice - they did a good job of providing different spaces with different levels of lighting and types of seating to be conducive to working, resting, eating, whatever.
