We’re in the final stretch before the wedding and my bachelorette’s party is in 3 days.
The great thing about the event is that I didn’t plan it. I am not even allowed to know what we will be doing. After months of managing florists, caterers, and invitations, I am ever so thankful to my two fabulous girlfriends who have been plotting the shenanigans for several weeks now. ( Connected readers did get a sneak peak into the party prep here.)
Now all I am concerned about is finding a right outfit (yeah, you guessed it– I checked my closet and I have nothing to wear!)
Please stay tuned for juicy details and photos!
Yours,
the delinquent bride

So, we had dinner tonight with some clients. It was quite an experience.
We went to a highly recommended place that picks you up in a stretch limo (not a Hummer), though the restaurant is only 5 blocks away. This is a good move on their part - many people don’t consider 5 blocks walking distance, and it is always nice to be picked up in a limo.
I’m sure that on a normal day the restaurant is great, and the hostess was wonderful and accommodating, but the server was horrible. He cam by and asked whether we wanted sparkling or plain water - we said plain. 10 minutes later he asked if we wanted sparkling or plain water, and we indicated we wanted plain (still). He then launched in to the menu and specials and we ordered the special appetizer. He came back 20 minutes later and launched in to the menu and specials again. We stopped him and said we already had this speech, still wanted the special appetizer and needed a minute to think about our orders. He proceeded to take our orders.
I had a pasta and asked for a side of risotto (the risotto at lunch wasn’t very good and I wanted another shot here). I’ve had fish too many times so I asked for the pasta without shrimp, and the risotto would make up for it. Well, our meals finally came, and there was no risotto to be found. The server came by to ask how things are, and I asked if the risotto was coming - he said yes, and confirmed it was vegetarian. About 15 minutes later (after I was done with my meal) he came back and said the chef did not feel the risotto was up to standards and would not serve it, but said we would not charged be charged for it (no shit Sherlock).
And so it went the whole night - nothing was right at any point. At very least we needed to switch plates. The icing was the bill - the bill came, and was paid (quickly, we needed to get out). I watched our designated payer place the signed copy in the folder - we were actually talking about the signature. We decided to walk back rather than wait 20 minutes for the limo. About 3 block from the restaurant the server came running up saying the signed copy was not there. Now, he was terrible, but we didn’t want him stuck with the bill. We worked things out - but damn, it could not have gone any worse.
It was fun - because we were with a good group. But at the prices they were charging it should have been perfect.

Well, made it to Baltimore, MD. I would never have any reason to be here except for a conference. And I’m speaking here, whether I like it or not.
Conferences are sort of fun, but working the booth and taking people out and all of it can get a little stressful. Today is OK, but by day three, I’ll be tired as hell. I enjoy talking to everyone, and I learn so much, but sometimes I just want to go to bed - hey that’s a good idea! Good night.

To bring you some breaking news about one of the hosts of our favorite BBC show: “Top Gear.” One of the crazy kids who drives around too many cars too fast was in a 300 m/h crash but is now getting better. Whew!
Now go, watch that show!

Remember my unfortunate experience with “Induldge and Bloom” florist? The guy never emailed/called me with a flower quote.
My string of bad floral luck continues. Last weekend, my friend Amity and I went to Vanderbloom wholesale florist and the following Monday I decided to place an order. I called and left them a message. It’s three days later and nobody called me back.
Slightly frustrated, I looked at some of the online flower delivery service: www.rosesource.com. The website provided a user-friendly chat option for customers to get pricing and inventory information. Great, I don’t have to wait for somebody to call me back, it’s all real-time baby! Not so fast, Gina
. Here’s a transcript of my chat with their customer service:
Time of chat: 9/20/2006 11:41:58 AM
Length of chat: 00:03:03
Your name: Gina
Chatted with: Albert
11:41 AM Albert: Hello, Gina. Can I help you with anything today?
11:42 AM Gina: Hi,
11:42 AM Gina: I am looking for mini calla lilies (80-100) for a wedding. Can I order specific colors from you?
11:42 AM Notice: Albert exited session.
The show continues.
UPDATE
The Albert guy emailed me back– he didn’t mean to ignore me. His Windows shut down on him and he’s very sorry. Insert your Microsoft joke here.

Here’s the quote on my Google home page:
“I had an epiphany a few years ago where I was out at a celebrity party and it suddenly dawned on me that I had yet to meet a celebrity who is as smart and interesting as any of my friends.”

I have not verified the accuracy of this article on ‘ethically challenged’ politicians, but it is certainly interesting points for discussion.

It’s because economists look at ‘normal’ things in interesting ways. Here, Cowen discusses the market for the mile high club. Apparently, people are willing to pay $299 to get it on in an airplane.

There are some good things coming up over the next few weeks:
Talk Like a Pirate Day is on Tuesday, Sept 19. Got to participate.
Also, we have Banned Books Week the week of the 23rd. Google is involved and making it easier to find which classic you were looking for.
